More Changes To The Layout

Posted by RAH on May 12, 2007

At the top of this page are links to PAGES - where I store useful links and other stuff. They are now listed by topic rather than by year group as well. This makes sense as many links were being duplicated and that was a waste of my time.

Mostly, it is obvious what you will find, but under LOCATIONS you will find many fun games for where things are in the world. It is worth look.

And under MAP READING SKILLS there are also many links and skills to enjoy.

FUN STUFF is exactly that, mostly to do with Geography but not always.

To the right are CATEGORIES where I send my posts, so if it is interesting for your year group you will find it there.

Revision Top Tips

Posted by RAH on May 7, 2007

I have quite strong opinions on this. Here we go, and this is for any subject:

  • Small bursts - Revise in small easily digestible bursts. It’s different for everyone but 10-15 mins is enough. After that you will lose concentration whether you think so or not.
  • Jump to the heart - Get underneath the skin of the revision sheet and its content. If you’re smart, you’ll go right to the heart of what you need to know.
  • Talk - Ask if you’re not sure. They don’t bite.
  • Doing is learning - Revision is a written exercise. Whether it’s a spider diagram / mind map, rough notes, lists or diagrams just doesn’t matter - again, everyone is different, do it your way. Reading is vital - in small doses, but staring at a book thinking you’re reading is just plain dull.
  • Be Interactive - use fun stuff - there is plenty on this site and you can find your own.

Changes to pages

Posted by RAH on May 6, 2007

I’ve made some changes to the pages at the top of the site. You can try your year group page for various links and you can now follow by topic. So, for example, if you are going to revise Coasts go to the Coasts page (obviously!). Some links may be found on both pages. The Locations page will lead you to some games which will help to learn where places are in the world. The Map Reading page should also be good fun.

The BBC has produced an excellent wizz through history to see how the population has grown from the year zero to today. Well worth a look. Click on the picture to use it.
